How to Get a Hair Clog Out of a Toilet
- 1). Pour the recommended amount of drain cleaner into the toilet water. Follow the product manufacturer's recommendations regarding the length of time the product should stay in the bowl to take full effect on the hair clog.
- 2). Use a plunger to plunge the hole until the hair flows through. Flush the toilet to make sure it works properly before you put away the plunger.
- 3). Insert the barbed end of a drain stick into the toilet bowl, if the plunger and drain cleaner didn't work. Manipulate the stick into the hole until it is deep inside the toilet trap. The barbs on the stick catch foreign objects, including hair.
- 4). Pull the drain stick out of the toilet. Repeat the process if the toilet is still clogged.
- 5). Rent an auger, if the other methods didn't work. Insert the auger tip into the hole in the bottom of the toilet bowl. Crank the handle while to feed the auger deeper into the toilet until you hit the hair blockage.
- 6). Continue cranking the handle until the auger catches or breaks up the hair blockage. Remove the auger once the toilet water flows through, which indicates that the hair blockage is removed.
