- 1). Pour 1 tsp. car wash soap and 2 quarts warm water into a bucket. Substitute 1 tsp. of dish soap if you have no car-wash soap.
- 2). Dip a cleaning rag or toothbrush into the soapy water, and wipe across your black auto trim.
- 3). Rinse the trim with the garden hose, or if you do not want to get the entire car wet, rinse out the cloth and wipe the trim.
- 4). Wipe the trim dry with a clean towel to prevent streaking or spots. Wipe in small circular motions to pull out the shine from the black trim.
- 5). Drizzle 1/2 tsp. of bug and tar remover onto the damp cleaning rag if any residue is not removed with the soapy water alone.
- 6). Wipe the area with a damp cloth and dry with the towel.
- 7). Apply a layer of car wax to restore the shine to the trim if it begins to look dull. Follow the application instructions, which typically will have you spray or rub the wax onto the trim with a cloth.
