How to Clean a Gastrostomy Tube With Vinegar
- 1). Rinse the gastrostomy tube with plain warm water to remove surface food remnants. If the tube features a syringe for pushing food through the tube, use the same mechanism to push water through for proper rinsing.
- 2). Fill a bowl with undiluted white vinegar. Place the tubes into the vinegar bowl and allow them to soak for 20 minutes. This will remove any food buildup in the tubes that have not been removed by regular cleaning.
- 3). Remove the tubes and dispose of the vinegar. Rinse the tubes repeatedly with clean, warm water to remove any residual vinegar.
