Removing a Light Water Stain From Drywall on the Ceiling
- 1). Clear the area under the spot on the ceiling where there is water damage, then place the plastic tarp on the floor to protect it while you work.
- 2). Fill a bucket with equal amounts of bleach and water.
- 3). Place the sponge in the solution of bleach and water in the bucket, and carefully climb the ladder with the bucket.
- 4). Wring out the sponge so it is damp but not dripping wet, and then gently scrub the area of the ceiling that has a light water stain. Repeat this process until the stain is barely visible, then allow the ceiling to dry.
- 5). Pour some primer into a paint tray, and then load the roller by rolling it back and forth in the tray. Apply the primer to the area of the ceiling that had the water stain. Allow the primer to dry. If the water stain is still visible, reapply another coat of primer to the ceiling.
- 6). Repaint the affected area of the ceiling. If it has been a long time since the ceiling was painted, the new paint may not be a 100-percent match to the existing ceiling paint. If this is the case, you may have to repaint the entire ceiling to get a professional and seamless appearance.
