How to Remove Stickers in Grass

    • 1). Locate as many of the sandbur plants as you can and dig them out. A small shovel and a heavy-duty pair of gloves is all you need. Bag these plants up and throw them away. Just make sure that you dug up the roots, or you will find them growing back again next year.

    • 2). Water your lawn frequently. Sandburs thrive on soil that is dry. The water will also encourage thick, green grass to grow. Healthy grass chokes sandbur plants and prevents them from growing.

    • 3). Drag a large blanket across your lawn. The stickers will cling to the blanket. You may want to use a blanket that you don't mind tossing out, because it will take a long time to get all of the stickers off the blanket.

    • 4). Mow the lawn. This will cut the sandburs down and encourage healthy grass to grow. Make sure you collect the grass you are cutting so that you can bag it and throw it away. That will get rid of a lot of your stickers.

    • 5). Use a preemergent herbicide on your grass. This will keep the sandbur seeds from germinating and growing. You may need to apply this herbicide two times, three months apart. It only lasts a total of four months, but you won't need to apply it during the winter months.
