Removing Warp From Wood

    • 1). Restore a large piece of board or paneling by placing it with the concave side facing down outside on wet grass on a sunny day. Water the grass well first before laying the board or paneling down. Let it dry in the sun all day and check to see how much of the warp remains. A second or third treatment may be necessary, depending on the severity of the warp.

    • 2). Remove warps on smaller pieces of wood by using a wet towel and iron. Place the piece of warped wood on the towel and place cement blocks or other heavy objects on the wood. As it absorbs the moisture, it will begin to straighten. Apply a hot iron over the towel if needed. This may need to be repeated or the board left in place for a few days in order for it to work.

    • 3). Restore furniture with warps by using a steamer and clamps. If possible, apply steam to the warped section and use clamps to pull the wood into its original position. Keep the clamps on until the wood is fully dried out. It’s also possible to place heavy objects on top of the wood after steaming, if clamps will not work. This may take several treatments before the warps are completely removed.
