Tips for Clay in the Carpet
- When removing red potter's clay, vacuum the stained site to remove any loose pieces of clay. The remaining embedded pieces will need to be removed with a cleanser mixture.
- To make the cleanser, mix 1 tsp. of neutral detergent and 1 tsp. of white vinegar with 1000 ml of warm water. Rub the mixture into the carpet, allow it to dry completely and vacuum again.
- When removing play dough clay (hard and soft) from carpet, first loosen the clay using a plastic fork. Next, wet a paper towel or white washcloth with rubbing alcohol and dab at the remaining clay. This will loosen the clay and help remove any color from the stain.
- When the alcohol solution seems to stop working, use an alternate mixture to remove the remaining clay. Combine a mixture of 1 tbs. clear dish soap and 1 cup of water. Put the mixture into a spray bottle. Spray the stained area and alternate blotting the spot with a towel. Try to remove leftover pieces with your fingers.
- Rinse with clear water while alternately blotting with a clean, dry towel to remove any cleansers. If any additional removal steps are necessary, allow the carpet to dry completely before moving on to another method.
- A final step for removing play dough clay is to spray hydrogen peroxide on the spot and let it sit for one to two hours. Blot with a clean towel, and allow the area to dry again. Repeat this method until the entire stain is removed.
