How to Unclog a Drain Without Drano
- 1). Remove the drain stopper in your sink if it has one. Many lift out and others come out by twisting them in a counter clockwise direction.
- 2). Place the plunger over the sink hole.
- 3). Stuff a wet cleaning cloth or sponge into the overflow hole. This helps unclog the drain by blocking the air source.
- 4). Fill the sink or tub with enough water to cover half the rubber section of the plunger. This helps create a tight seal.
- 5). Push the plunger up and down seven or eight times without breaking the seal.
- 6). Lift the plunger up swiftly after the eighth time. The water will drain rapidly if the clog is gone. If not, repeat the process.
- 7). Clean up any hair, soap scum or other debris that is near the drain hole after plunging. Pulling out any remaining hair or debris helps prevent the clog from recurring.
- 1). Remove the drain stopper if the sink has one.
- 2). Pour 1/2 cup of baking soda into the drain hole.
- 3). Add 1/2 cup of white distilled vinegar to the drain. The combination will start to bubble, dissolving any soap scum or gunk clogging the drain.
- 4). Wait approximately 30 minutes for the mixture to work. Flush the drain with hot water.
- 5). Repeat the process if the water doesn't drain well.
