How to Remove Paint From an Old Doorknob

    • 1). Remove the doorknobs, faceplates, and any other associated hardware from the door.

    • 2). Place all hardware in the Crockpot and cover them with water.

    • 3). Add 2 to 3 tbs. of dishwashing or laundry detergent.

    • 4). Set the heat on medium and leave for about 8 hours or overnight.

    • 5). Carefully remove the hardware from the pot (it will be quite hot, so use tongs or a slotted spoon), and set it on a cloth or protected surface to cool.

    • 6). Scrub away the loosened paint with an old toothbrush and rinse the hardware. Clean the pieces with a mild detergent, then reattach the doorknobs to the door.
