How to Distress Furniture With Glaze
- 1). Place your furniture onto a dropcloth. You can do this technique indoors, though the sawdust may create a mess. Consider doing the project in a garage or workroom.
- 2). Sand the entire piece until the prior finish has been removed and it is smooth. Use a clean tack cloth to wipe away the sawdust from the furniture.
- 3). Pour your paint into a paint tray. Use a roller to apply an even coat to the entire furniture piece. Wait for the first coat to dry completely. Apply a second coat if you desire and allow it to dry.
- 4). Rub sandpaper over the edges, legs and small areas on the face of the furniture. The sanded areas are to simulate wear from years of use. Wipe away the paint and sawdust with a clean tack cloth.
- 5). Shake the can of glaze well to mix the contents. Dip a clean, dry rag into the glaze and wipe it over the furniture in even strokes. With a clean rag, wipe off the excess glaze. Work in small sections because the glaze dries quickly. The glaze will appear darker on the areas you sanded.
