Vinegar & Water to Clean Floors

    Cleaning Wood and Laminate Floors

    • Sweep your floors to collect loose dirt. Mix about 1/2 cup white vinegar with 1 gallon water. Dip a mop into the mixture and wring it out well. Wipe down wood or laminate flooring with this damp mop. Dry the flooring with a clean mop afterward, as you do not want excess moisture to absorb into the flooring. Too much moisture may cause wood to swell and become damaged.

Cleaning Tile, Vinyl and Linoleum Floors

    • Tile, vinyl and linoleum floors are also easy to clean with vinegar and water. Mix about 1 cup white vinegar with 1 gallon water. Vacuum or sweep your floor prior to mopping to collect loose dirt. Mop with the vinegar and water mixture, and let your hard floor surface air dry. The vinegar solution dries streak-free, so no additional work is required aside from keeping footprints off of the floor until it had dried fully.

    Cleaning Carpeted Floors

    • To quickly deodorize and disinfect carpet, fill a spray bottle with white vinegar and mist the carpet lightly. For a deep cleaning, use a steam cleaning machine. Instead of filling the cleaning solution compartment with commercial carpet cleaner, fill it with white vinegar.

Floors Unsafe for Use with Vinegar

    • Never use vinegar on granite or marble flooring, as it can eat away at the floor surface and cause costly damage. Instead, use a stone cleaner safe for this type of flooring and use as instructed.
