How to Wash Clothes That Have Baby Spit Up Stains

    • 1). Scrape baby spit-up stain substance from the clothes using the dull side of a table knife. Remove as much stain substance, as possible, and discard.

    • 2). Sprinkle a layer of baking soda over the remaining baby spit-up stain on the clothes. Pour a quarter-sized amount of club soda over the baking soda and mix the two ingredients with your fingers to form a paste the consistency of toothpaste. Add more baking soda if the paste is too thin and more club soda if the paste is too thick.

Scrub the baking soda and club soda paste into the spit-up stain using an old, but clean toothbrush. Let the foaming paste work on the spit-up stain as it sits for 15 minutes.

Rinse the paste from the clothes using a cool water rinse. Hot water will cook the protein in the stain, causing it to set.

    • 5). Pour enzyme pre-wash stain remover over any remaining baby spit-up stain. Spit-up stains contain protein from milk and the enzymes in the pre-wash will break down the proteins, which helps to loosen and remove the stain. Rub the fabric together to work the pre-wash into the stain and the fabric fibers. Let it sit for 15 minutes.

    • 6). Wash the clothes in warm water with a laundry detergent made specifically for washing baby items. Add oxygen bleach to remove any last traces of baby spit-up stains. Put the wash through two rinse cycles to fully remove the oxygen bleach so bleach residue on the clothes doesn't irritate baby's skin.

    • 7). Dry the clothes outside, if possible, on a drying rack or clothes line to add freshness to the fabric. Ensure the spit-up stain is completely removed before drying the clothes in the dryer.
