DIY Outside Wireless Antennas
- 1). Place a sheet of newspaper on a table. Place the cardboard horizontally on the newspaper. Apply white glue to the top of the cardboard, covering the entire length and edges.
- 2). Tear off strips of aluminum foil. Cover the cardboard with the foil strips. Smooth down the aluminum foil with your fingers. Let the white glue set for two hours.
- 3). Cut off the excess aluminum foil from the edges of the cardboard with the scissors.
- 4). Place the cardboard on the newspaper horizontally with the aluminum foil facing up. Measure 2 inches in from each short side of the cardboard. Poke a hole at the 2-inch mark in the middle of the cardboard, on both short sides, with the scissors blade.
- 5). Push one end of a piece of dental floss through the hole in the left side. Make a double-knot at the end of the floss so it will not slide out of the hole.
- 6). Push the other end of the dental floss through the hole on the other side of the cardboard. Pull on the floss until the cardboard bows inward, so it assumes a parabolic dish shape. Tie a double knot in the dental floss right up against the second hole. Cut off the excess floss with the scissors.
- 7). Cut a hole in the center of the cardboard with the scissors blade. Turn the cardboard over. Push the tip of a USB WI-Fi adapter into the hole in the center of the cardboard. Tape the sides of the Wi-Fi adapter to the cardboard with strips of cellophane tape.
- 8). Attach one end of a USB extender to the USB connector on the end of the USB Wi-Fi adapter.
- 9). Go outside. Stand your DIY wireless antenna against the side of your house, facing the back yard. Tape the top and bottom of the antenna to the wall with strips of masking tape. Run the USB extender cable into the house. Plug the end of the extender cable into the USB port on the back of the wireless router.
