- 1). Remove water soaked into the carpet, using a wet-dry vacuum.
- 2). Mix together 1 gallon of warm water and 2 cups of distilled white vinegar. Add a few drops of liquid dish soap. Use a wooden spoon to combine the contents.
- 3). Submerge a sponge in the mixture and wring out the excess liquid.
- 4). Scrub the carpet gently with the sponge. Scrub in a back-and-forth motion until all traces of the black mold are gone. Work in small sections at a time. Start at the area of the carpet farthest away from the entrance and work toward it.
- 5). Fill a clean bucket with cool water. Submerge a clean cloth in the water and wring out the excess.
- 6). Blot the carpet with the cloth to rinse the area. Allow the carpet to air-dry. Point fans in the direction of the carpet to aid in the drying process.
- 7). Place a dehumidifier on a level location in the room. Dehumidifiers remove the moisture from the air, which reduces the chance of mold growth.
