Ergotism

• Ergot is a fungal species that replaces seeds or kernels during an infestation. The victims of exposure to toxic levels of ergot experience hallucinations and intense burning sensations. Other symptoms include blindness, convulsions, twitching and drowsiness. Ergotism is not a public health concern. The toxins that cause these symptoms are beaten by hygienic agricultural practices. Sufferers around the world experience fevers, headaches, abdominal pain, vomiting, jaundice, nausea and an accumulation of fluid in the legs or feet. Alfatoxins can also enter the organs. Ochratoxicosis

• Ochratoxins are found in molds that grow on coffee beans, cereals and bread. Like those who suffer from alfatoxicosis, exposure to orchatoxins may cause respiratory distress. This form of mold poisoning can also cause symptoms related to chronic internal lesions. A connection between renal failure and orchatoxins exists. So signs of ochratoxin poisoning may include fatigue, pale skin and weight loss.
