What to Do If You Inhale Black Mold Dust?

    Location of Inhalation

    • If you experience a mild allergic reaction, you can try over-the-counter allergy medications. See your family physician if your allergic reaction is more severe or persistent. People experiencing asthma attacks should follow their treatment instructions from their physician and seek immediate medical attention for a severe attack.

    Allergic or Asthmatic Reactions

    • If you've been exposed to black mold spores at work or on a job site and you're exhibiting symptoms, talk to your supervisor about being referred to an occupational physician. If you're showing signs of an allergic reaction or a lung infection, the occupational physician may refer you to a specialist.

    Removing Black Mold

    • Even if you don't experience symptoms from black mold exposure, you have to remove the mold from your home. Black mold can be cleaned off of hard surfaces with a solution of 10 parts water to one part bleach. Moldy carpets or fabric must be discarded and mold-infested wallboard and insulation must be replaced.
