Why Does Asphalt Have to Be Sealed?

Sealants

  • Sealants are viscous materials that solidify on setting after application over the asphalt surface. They usually are water-based emulsions that contain clay, a filler material such as lime, polymers, various organic compounds, tar and asphalt. Higher-grade sealants that provide greater durability for airport or racetrack surfaces include acrylic polymers.
