- 1). Try to catch the yellow bass in early spring, around April and May. This is when they are more active. You are more likely to catch the fish in early morning and late afternoon.
- 2). Sit on the shore next to a structure, such as a fallen tree or a formation of rocks, or where there is a sudden drop off. Yellow bass are more active and likely to bite around a structure as opposed to open water.
- 3). Use a 5 to 6-foot, light action rod equipped with 6-pound test line. This line is heavy enough to catch these smaller fish.
- 4). Bait the hook with night crawlers or minnows. Lures such as spinner-jigs and jigs in bright colors such as chartreuse, silver and yellow, are the most effective.
- 5). Consider making the yellow bass into a meal. Yellow bass are excellent-tasting fish with firm skin that can be smoked or pan fried.
