How to Fish With Arky Crawlers
- 1). Rig the Arkie Crawlin' Grub on a jig head. The jig should be just heavy enough to drag the grub to the bottom and keep it there. Hold the grub so the legs face downward and insert the hook point into the middle of the collar on top of it. Thread the grub up the shank of the hook. Press the hook point out of the grub when the top of the grub is just below the head of the jig. Thread the grub the rest of the way up the shank so it rides straight on the hook.
- 2). Rig the Arkie Crawlin' Grub Texas style. Slide a bullet weight on the fishing line. The weight should be heavy enough to carry the grub to the bottom. Tie a 1/0 hook to the fishing line with a Palomar knot. Insert the point of the hook into the top of the grub and push it down 1/4 of an inch. Push the hook point out of the bait, and then slide the grub up the shank of the hook until it is just below the hook eye. Rotate the hook so it faces the grub. Push the hook into the body of the grub and stop just before it breaks the surface on the other side.
- 3). Cast the jig and Arkie Crawlin' grub around cover like boat docks and the edges of vegetation. Let the lure fall to the bottom and then work it back to the boat or shore with quick jerks of your rod tip, which imitates a crayfish.
- 4). Cast a Texas-rigged Arkie Crawlin' Grub into heavy cover. Let the rig sink to the bottom and then shake your rod tip, which will cause the grub to quiver under the water. If the cover isn't too heavy, retrieve the lure so it makes short hops along the bottom.
