- 1). Cut a piece of fishing line 2 feet in length. Make sure the line is at least 10-lb test.
- 2). If the hook is part of a lure, remove it from the bait.
- 3). Double the fishing line so it creates a loop on one end. Wrap the other end around your fingers so it will not slip under pressure.
- 4). Place the loop of fishing line around the bend in the hook.
- 5). Press the eye of the hook onto the skin, and ensure that the shank of the hook is parallel to the skin. Position your other hand -- the one holding the fishing line -- so the line is parallel to the skin and in-line with the hook.
- 6). Press hard onto the eye of the hook and give the fishing line a sharp pull. The hook should come out of the skin.
- 7). Rub antibiotics onto the spot where the hook was embedded. Place a bandage over the area.
