How to Attach Several Game Systems to Surround Sound
- 1). Access the back of each game system and the receiver. Determine the type of audio/video outputs available on each machine.
- 2). Plug an HDMI cable into the "HDMI" ports of each enabled game console. Route these to free HDMI inputs on the receiver. Plug component video cables from game consoles that do not have HDMI outs into the red, blue and green component video inputs on the receiver. Plug an optical cable into the audio output jack on the component A/V dongle supplied with each non-HDMI equipped console, then connect it to a free optical port on the receiver.
- 3). Plug an additional HDMI cable from the HDMI "Monitor Out" jack on the receiver to a free corresponding jack on the HDTV.
- 4). Access the receiver's setup menu. Look for a "Menu" or "Setup" button on the receiver's remote control. Head to the "Video" or "Setup" option on the receiver's menu. Find the option that upconverts incoming resolutions to a standard, single-resolution output. Set this to the highest resolution your television will support. Consult your television's manual if you are not sure. This process, known as transcoding, allows all non-HDMI enabled consoles to pass through the single HDMI output to the television.
