How to Help Young Children Deal With Divorce

    • 1). Be available to talk to your child and answer any questions that he or she may have.

    • 2). Let your child know that it is not their fault that the divorce is happening. Make sure they know that they are still loved very much.

    • 3). Do not speak negatively about your ex-spouse in front of your child- ever. Watch what you say at all times. Your child has enough to deal with at the moment without hearing mommy and daddy say horrible things about one another even after they have divorced.

    • 4). Try not to let your child know about the problems or fights you may be having with your ex-spouse. That is not something that they need to be worrying about.

    • 5). Never make your child choose sides.

    • 6). Make sure your child still gets to see their mother or father if the situation permits it.
