My Laptop Is Slow Loading Applications
- 1). Read the product documentation or look on the application's packaging to determine if your laptop meets system requirements. Click "Start" and right click "Computer," then click "Properties." View your computer's technical specifications in the "System Properties" window. Compare them to the requirements for the software. Upgrade your laptop if it does not meet the minimum requirements or purchase an earlier version of the software.
- 2). Click "Start" and type "msconfig" in the "Search programs and files" box. Click "msconfig" when it appears on the list.
- 3). Click the "Startup" tab. Uncheck the box next to any program you want to prevent from loading when your computer starts. Click "Apply" and "OK." Click "Restart Now." Check the application load speed after restart.
- 4). Click "Start" and select "Control Panel." Type "Performance Information and Tools" in the Control Panel search box if you do not see it listed on the main Control Panel page. Click the listing once it appears. Click "Adjust visual effects." Select "Visual Effects." Choose "Adjust for best performance" and click "OK." Check your application load times after this adjustment.
- 5). Click "Start" and select "All Programs." Go to "Accessories" then click "System Tools." Select "Disk Defragmenter." Choose the hard drive on which your program is located. Click "Analyze disk." Choose "Defragment disk" if the analysis indicated you should defragment your hard drive. Determine your hard drive type before you start the defragmentation process. Click "Start" and right-click "My Computer." Click "Properties." Go to the "Hardware" tab and choose "Device Manager." Expand the "Disk Drives" entry in the Device Manager. If a drive is listed as HDD you can defragment it. If the drive is labeled SSD (solid state drive), defrag may damage it.
