Is the Gateway NV7802U Memory Expandable?
- Gateway's NV7802U laptop can hold a maximum of 8GB of RAM between two memory sockets. The laptop is compatible with both PC3-8500 and PC3-1066 double data rate-3 (DDR3) 204-pin synchronous dynamic RAM (SDRAM). The RAM modules must be small outline dual inline memory modules (SODIMMs), which is a specification used to define the physically smaller memory used in laptops.
- While this laptop comes with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Edition, if you've downgraded or bought the system used, you may need to upgrade. If you've got a 32-bit operating system, your computer will be able to use only 4GB, at most. The 64-bit operating systems typically can use your whole 8GB fully. All 64-bit versions of Windows XP though Windows 7 can use at least 8GB, excluding the Starter Editions.
- In Windows 7 and Vista, you can find how much memory your PC currently has by clicking the Start orb, right-clicking "Computer" and selecting "Properties" from the menu. This screen will show you your current installed memory and whether you've got a 32- or 64-bit operating system.
