How to Make a Fondant Rattle
- 1). Roll some fondant into a ball with a 2-inch diameter between the palms of your hands. The fondant has the consistency of modeling clay, but if it is hard, knead it between your hands to soften it. Keep unused fondant covered with a damp towel to keep it from drying out.
- 2). Make a 1-inch diameter ball from the fondant, rolling the fondant between your palms to smooth the ball.
- 3). Insert each of the balls into either end of a lollipop stick to make the rattle. Don't worry about letting the fondant harden just yet. You will decorate the exterior of the rattle with colored sugar before allowing the fondant to set.
- 4). Lightly sprinkle water over each of the fondant balls on the stick.
- 5). Fill a shallow dish with the colored sugar. Use a sugar in a contrasting color to the rattle, or use the same color as the fondant on the rattle to add a shine without changing the overall color scheme. Roll the two balls in colored sugar to add a shimmer to the fondant rattle.
- 6). Wait for 24 to 48 hours for the fondant rattle to set to a hardened state. Place the rattle on the cake or to the side as a decoration.
