Being a Vegan
I have been a vegan for over 9 months.
I do not eat any meat, dairy, or animal products.
It all started when I was on a spiritual journey.
I started meditating daily and all of a sudden felt the urge to stop eating meat.
So, I became a vegetarian in 2003 and did that for a year.
Then, I went back to eating meat for a while.
And then, back again to vegetarian.
It was not until recently that I turned to being a vegan.
I was doing a project on vegetarianism and learned what happens to the animals.
Wow, was that ever an eye opener.
Do you know that cows do not just give milk at will? They have to be pregnant.
How do they get pregnant? Humans artificially inseminate them and make them pregnant.
Then, they take the milk that should be for the calf and feed it to us.
After they have artificially inseminated them so many times that when they hook them up to the milking tube their udders do not work anymore.
Then, what do they do? They ship them to the slaughter house.
The amount of food that is used to feed a cow its whole life could feed a whole third world country.
Now, which would you rather have? A cow, or a whole country of people? And that is not the least of it.
On to chickens.
They are molded to their cages and their beaks are cut off.
The beaks are cut off so they will not peck any other chicken.
Oh yeah, and a cow sleeps in its own poo.
So, why am I a vegan? Well, I think it is obvious now.
I do not eat any meat, dairy, or animal products.
