Mangosteen Juice - Looking At The Facts

Anyone who has done some research on mangosteen knows that it is a fruit grown in tropical regions in Southeast Asia. Mangosteen can be eaten just like any other fruit, or consumed as a juice that is produced from the pulp and the dark colored rind of the fruit. What we do know for sure about this fruit is that it contains several helpful nutrients that are important to human health. A serving of mangosteen contains about 12% of the recommended daily allowance of carbohydrates, 10% RDI of dietary fiber, 5% vitamin C and manganese, and 8% folic acid. Mangosteen is an excellent source of potassium, an important nutrient for maintaining energy levels and heart health.

The mangosteen fruit is the subject of many discussions and studies pertaining to the health benefits of a variety of fruits known to contain antioxidant xanthones. Like all other studies related to the cancer fighting benefits of antioxidants, there are no conclusive results as to whether mangosteen juice, or any other product of the mangosteen fruit can prevent cancer, but the fact remains that the mangosteen is a very good source of free radical fighting antioxidants. Mangosteen has attracted a great deal of attention for its xanthone extracts - garcinol and mangostin - as possible anti-inflammatory agents and early evidence suggests that it may inhibit cyclo-oxygenase enzymes and carcinogens. Garcinol may also be an appetite suppressant and possibly useful in weight control (again, early studies). So for those who believe that these elements are an important part of their disease prevention efforts, mangosteen juice can be a great addition to thier daily diet.

As you continue your own research into the benefits of mangosteen juice, make sure you carefully consider all claims. What research has shown is that the mangosteen rind is rich in antioxidant xanthones. If you are searching for a source of these antioxidants then mangosteen juice is an excellent source. While we still do not know if these elements can prevent disease we do know that there are enough nutrients in the mangosteen to make it a great addition to your daily health regimen.
