Temperature for a Bush Bean Plant Outside

    Blue Lake 274

    • Blue Lake 274 bush beans grow in full, tender pods. Seeds are slow to develop -- they take almost 60 days to harvest after planting. Don't plant the seeds outside until the last-frost date in your area has passed. The ideal outdoor soil temperature for growing Blue Lake beans is 65 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit.

    Kentucky Wonder

    • Kentucky Wonder bush beans have long, flat pods. They take 57 days to harvest after planting. Plant the seeds outside after all danger of frost has passed. Like other bush beans, Kentucky Wonder beans prefer warm soil temperatures of 65 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Seeds will not germinate if the soil temperature exceeds 85 degrees Fahrenheit.

    Derby

    • Derby bush beans grow in slim pods. Derby is a high-yielding variety, earning the 1990 All American Selection award for its prolific pod production. Seedlings grow slowly in cool weather, so plant Derby seeds in soil temperatures of 65 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Plant new seeds every two weeks for a continuous harvest until eight weeks before you expect the first fall frost.

    Lima

    • Bush lima beans mature faster than pole-grown varieties. For lima bean seeds to germinate, the soil temperature has to be 65 degrees Fahrenheit for five days straight. Cold, wet weather causes flowers to drop off mature plants, so wait until late spring to plant limas.
