How to Kill Goutweed

    • 1). Mix the Glyphosate weed killer by the manufacturer's instructions in a spray pump. Spray the goutweed directly with the weed killer chemical. Rinse the spray pump and properly store.

    • 2). Wait 24 hours. Dig up any goutweed that is still alive with a garden trowel. Place the weeds in a garbage container to dispose of them. Be certain to get the roots of the weed. If you do not want to use the weed killer, you can dig up the goutweed without spraying first.

    • 3). Remove the existing healthy plants in the flower beds and garden areas. Cover these large areas that are prone to goutweed with a black plastic tarp. This will prevent the goutweed from growing or germinating to spread further in the yard. Leave the tarp for several weeks.

    • 4). Check the planting location for goutweed and remove any that is left. Replant your healthy plants and flowers. Cover with a weed tarp. Use scissors to cut small holes in the weed tarp directly above healthy plants and flowers. Gently lift plants and flowers through the weed tarp.
