The NOT So Sweet Side of Sugar
It's been called dangerous, white poison, sweet suicide and labeled the drug of choice.
Yet the average American consumes 2 to 3 pounds of it each week! Sugar has many names, sucrose, dextrose, and high-fructose corn syrup to name a few.
Sugar is in so many foods that we eat such as catsup, peanut butter, cereal, bread, sauces, salad dressing and a plethora of many other foods and prepared meals.
Our body's bloodstream has an influx of sugar which in turn throws off our insulin levels which can cause degenerative disease.
Cancer, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes are at the top of the list.
Sugar has no dietary benefits.
It contains no minerals, vitamins or fiber and is considered a refined carbohydrate (the bad stuff).
The typical American diet can put 50 teaspoons of the white stuff in your diet per day and many people aren't even aware.
They think if they avoid candy, cookies and cakes they're not consuming sugar.
But sugar is added in to so many of the foods we buy and eat.
It is very important to read labels and when eating out ask if the food you're about to order contains sugar.
You'd be surprised at how many entrees do.
Be careful of Chinese food because many of the sauces contain a lot of sugar.
Sugar is useless calories and when you increase your caloric intake you shorten your life span.
So the first step in weight control and management is to lower or totally cut out your intake of sugar.
You'll feel a lot better too! And don't substitute with artificial sweeteners - they're worse! Instead use Xylitol, Agave Nectar, Stevia or Fructose - all have a lower glycemic index and are better for our health than sugar.
Sugar is very high on the list of things that causes us to age prematurely.
It does this by elevating insulin levels which in turn elevate stress hormones and then set off inflammatory responders to go wild in the body.
All this havoc can cause damage to the mitochondria and therefore your cells aren't going to function properly.
When cells don't function properly it can cause us major health problems.
