Simple and Effective Copywriting Tips

Copywriting has been around for a long time now. You see it in sales letters, newspaper ads and even websites designed by direct marketers. But what makes you a good copywriter? How would one go about making copy that sells? One thing's for sure and that's that you can't create good copy unless you familiarize yourself with your product and you're able to let people know that they need to buy your product.

You are about to learn some ways to create killer copy that sells.

When writing sales copy, it's important not to get carried away with hype. Very often, a copywriter will ruin a basically good message by using too much hype. The advantages of a good product don't have to be exaggerated. It's better to honestly explain to your prospects how your product can help them rather than bragging how great it is. You have to give your readers a healthy dose of free information along with the hype. The reason anybody would read your sales copy is to get a clear idea about your product before they actually buy it. If you talk to people as if you are simply explaining something to them in a reasonable way, they will be open to your offer. Limit your use of things like italics, bold headlines and exclamation points. If you have a particular point you want to emphasize you can use these. They are best used sparingly. Your readers will start to distrust you if you use these too often. You certainly don't want your copy to have this effect. Keep it real and keep it as genuine as possible. Don't do anything to annoy or turn off your readers. You also have to remember that your reader is not really interested in your product's features, it's the benefits he cares about. The features your product has, no matter how impressive, will not be of interest to your customers until you explain how these features will benefit them. Your prospects don't really care about the way your product works, they want to know what problem it will solve for them. Just make sure that you list a benefit every time you mention a feature. Besides that, when your prospect talks about your product to his friends and family (word of mouth) he/she won't talk about the features but will only talk about how beneficial the product is. You may have features that make you different from your competitors, but people buy because of the benefits. You can highlight the benefits with bullet points so people notice them.

You should also remember to end your sales copy with a p.s. or post script. A few simple lines can actually boost your sales if you do it the right way. Various studies have shown that almost everyone reads the P.S. Apart from that, it stops many people from leaving your page and once again reinforces the benefits of the product. Make your post script a strong call to action and summarize your offer for your prospects.

While copywriting may look hard at first, you'll soon find yourself using it every chance you get when promoting things online.
