- 1). Click on the "Network and Sharing Center" icon in the Windows system tray, at the far right corner of your screen. In Windows 7, it looks like several vertical bars stacked next to each other. In Windows XP, it looks like a computer with curved lines beside it. When clicked, a list of networks detected nearby will pop up from the bottom of your screen. Alternately, find your network settings under "Control Panel" in the "Start" menu.
- 2). Right click on your network (for example, "My Home Network"). Click on "Properties" from the pop-up dialog box. Click on the "Security" tab at the top of the new window that appears.
- 3). Click inside the blank field next to "Network security key." Type in your password, keeping in mind that it is case sensitive. You can check the "Show characters" box to make it easier to catch any mistakes. Press the "OK" button when you're finished.
