Ginkgo Biloba and Improving Memory

One of the things that ginkgo biloba is known for is improving memory. Ginkgo biloba comes from tree that is known as the ginkgo tree and is popular around the country of China. Some people claim that this herb can improve memory however it could be a placebo effect. A placebo is for example someone telling you a pill is going to do something even though it really doesn't, but you feel the effects because you believe that it will.

One of the effects of ginkgo is that it can thin someone's blood which can give a person all kinds of health benefits. One of theories is that more blood can reach the brain region and result in a better memory for a person if they take ginkgo. Scientists from one research institution did a study with over 3,000 patients to see if ginkgo really did affect memory. They gave the patients ginkgo and followed up with some tests on their cognitive behavior and the result was that no positive effects of ginkgo was recorded.

In another study with 3,069 patients between the ages of 70 and 96 they split the group into two parties. One party received 120 mg dose of ginkgo biloba twice daily while the other group just received a placebo pill. After 6 years the result was that there was no difference between the placebo group and the group that received ginkgo.

According to these studies it would be seem that ginkgo biloba does not improve memory or at least there is no proof of it. However there is still some ways that this herb can be beneficial. For instance the blood thinning ability can help with erectile dysfunction by allowing more blood to reach the penis. Thinning of blood can be a big help when it comes to preventing heart disease as well as strokes. This is due to putting less pressure on the walls of the arteries making it harder for there to be blockage. Plus this can result in putting less pressure on the heart muscle which can enable someone to live longer.

The only way I know of to get the effects of ginkgo is by taking a supplement. Our group recommends a brand that has a certificate of analyst which means that it validates that the ingredients on the label come in the supplement. Also that it follows pharmaceutical GMP compliance which is among the highest manufacturing standards that are available.
