How to Copy Desktop Themes From Windows 98 to Windows 2000

    Copy the Desktop Theme

    • 1). Locate the desktop theme you wish to copy. All of your computer's desktop themes sit in the Windows "Resources" subfolder. To find them, double-click on the My Computer icon on your desktop, then double-click on the Windows folder. Open the "Resources" subfolder by double-clicking it and then double-click on "Themes" to open that folder.

    • 2). Copy the desktop theme. Once you have opened "Themes," right click on the theme you wish to copy from Windows 98 to Windows 2000. When the right-click menu appears, highlight "Copy" and left-click.

    • 3). Insert a flash drive or 3.5-inch disk. Which transfer method you choose will depend on whether or not your computer has a 3.5-inch disk drive or a USB port for a flash drive.

    • 4). Reopen the My Computer icon and then double-click on either the 3.5-inch disk (usually labeled as the "A" drive) or the flash drive (usually labeled as the "E" or "F" drive).

    • 5). Right-click anywhere in the empty space after opening the window for the flash drive or 3.5-inch disk drive. When the right-click menu appears, highlight "Paste" and left-click.

    • 6). Press the eject button on the disk drive, if you are using a 3.5-inch disk. If you are using a flash drive, reopen My Computer, then right-click on the flash drive icon. When the right-click menu appears, highlight "remove disk safely" and then left-click. Then remove the flash drive from the USB port.

Transferring the Theme to Windows 2000

    • 1). Insert the flash drive or 3.5-inch disk into the computer running Windows 2000. Once that computer has auto-detected the drive or disk, open My Computer on that machine.

    • 2). Select the flash drive or 3.5-inch disk drive by double-clicking on it. When it opens, right-click on the desktop theme you previously added. When the right-click menu appears, highlight "Copy" and left-click.

    • 3). Double-click on the My Computer icon on your desktop, then double-click on the Windows folder. Open the "Resources" subfolder by double-clicking it and then double-click on "Themes" to open that folder.

    • 4). Right-click anywhere in the empty space of the Themes folder. When the right-click menu appears, highlight "Paste" and left-click.
