How to Change a Fishing Line on a Spincast Reel
- 1). Completely remove any old or existing line on the spool. Take out a new spool of line and poke a pencil through the center. Find a small bowl and fill it up halfway with water. Place the pencil across the edges of the bowl. Allow the spool of line to barely touch the water so the line brushes across it.
- 2). Pull out the end of the line a few feet. Place the end through the last eye on the rod. Push it through the center of the spincast reel, then push it all the way through and pull it out the other side a foot. Wrap it around the reel two times and tie in a double knot. Cut off any excess line on the end.
- 3). Hold the rest of the line between your thumb and forefinger. Tighten the drag. Slowly reel in the line. Carefully continue to apply pressure to the line as you reel.
- 4). Watch the reel and make sure the line goes smoothly on the reel and doesn't clump up on one side. Continue to reel the line in until the new spool is empty or the reel is full.
- 5). Pull the end of the line through the eyes on the rod. Pull it out a foot or so and attach your lure or hook. Clip the hook on the eye of the rod, and tighten the line.
