When To Book An Air Conditioning Service

As soon as spring arrives and the weather warms up we start to think about how hot the summer will be and that brings us to thoughts of air conditioning. If you are lucky enough to live in a house with a ducted air conditioner it is not too soon even in spring to book an air conditioning service. For a start, if you leave it too long the servicemen will be booked up already and you will have to go to the bottom of the waiting list.

And secondly, you never know when a hot day will occur in spring and you might want to put the air-con on for a few hours. If it has not been serviced since last spring, then you can't be sure that it will work properly. And it may be damaged if it is run in poor condition. A service will not cost all that much, but if you run it and damage occurs then you could be up for some expensive repairs.

When an air con unit is up on the roof, it is well nigh impossible for the homeowner to inspect it. To start with, most of us don't have the necessary long ladder to get up there. We don't have the tools or the safety equipment needed to go climbing about the roof. It is far better to leave it for the experts. But what can go wrong with that air conditioner?

They have been known to sprout trees from seeds dropped by birds. Don't forget that there is moisture around this device and so seeds can sprout and grow quite large. If there are rodents in the district they could well make nests up there or in the ducts and you would never know without the assistance of an expert. In fact, those ducts can easily wear out and develop holes or tears that reduce the efficiency of the machine as air will be lost through them into the ceiling cavity.

So an air conditioner serviced should be on a regular basis for the best result. Every year would be a good plan. Of course it doesn't have to be in the spring. You can have it serviced in the autumn or the beginning of winter, especially if it is a reverse cycle model and you will be using it through those colder months.

Those units that are in the wall or the window are much more accessible and so you can check the filters and clean or renew them yourself. There are no ducts to be checked; you only need to look out that the outside unit, in the case of a split air con, is kept free of weeds and rubbish so that the fan can run without hindrance. Otherwise the motor could burn out.
