How to Use a Viewsat Ultra Lite the First Time

    Receiver Firmware Download and Installation

    • 1). Download the most recent FTA receiver firmware for the Viewsat Ultra Lite. The ZIP file filename will contain the year, month and date (yymmdd format). Extract the firmware PGM image file from the ZIP file to your the PC hard drive (.PEG extension). Copy the PGM file to an empty, formatted USB flash drive.

    • 2). Turn the receiver off from the main power switch on the back panel of the unit. Insert the flash drive containing the PGM file in the USB port on the receiver and turn the receiver on from the main power switch and also from the receiver remote. A message indicating the USB port initialization will appear on the screen.

    • 3). Press the "Menu" button on the remote to display the Main Menu. Enter the PIN code if prompted; default is 0000. Select the "User Settings" option and choose "Factory Default." Select "Yes" and press "OK."

    • 4). Select the "System Information" option, choose "Receiver Upgrade > USB" and press "OK." Select the PEG file from the USB directory displayed and press "OK." The message "I.n.S.t." will be displayed on the receiver during the file transfer process--do not interrupt this process.

    • 5). Wait until the receiver reboots and displays either 00.00 or a channel number. Exit the standby mode if necessary by pressing the red power button on the receiver remote. Wait 30 seconds and turn the receiver main power switch off, wait 30 seconds more and turn the main power switch back on.

    Receiver Setup

    • 1). Display the "Main Menu" using the remote's "Menu" button. Select the "User Settings" option and choose "Factory Default > Yes" and press "OK." Select "System Information", choose "Receiver Information" and confirm that the name of the receiver firmware installed is listed as the "Main S/W."

      Return to the "User Settings" option, select "Parental Control" and turn "Menu Lock" off. Select "Time Setting" from "User Settings" and choose "Auto" for the "Time Mode". Set the "Time Adjustment" for your time zone. Turn "Summer Time" "on" for Daylight Savings Time or "off" for Standard.

    • 3). Select "System Settings" from the "User Settings" menu and set "Local Channel" to "On." Select your city (or the nearest city) from the options given in the "Local Channel Region."

    • 4). Select "Option" from the "User Settings" menu and choose "On" for both "Sort by SID" and "Auto TP." Choose "All" for "Auto Roll" and "On" for "Full Channel Name."

    • 5). Set the electronic program guide by selecting "EPG Setting" from the "User Settings" menu. Use the settings "E:12472" and "N:12311" for the EPG TP.

    Satellite Configuration

    • 1). Select "Installation" from the remote menu and choose "Antenna Setup." Select the Satellite to be searched using the remote arrow keys and turn the Low Noise Block power to "On."

      Select the LNB type--choose "Standard" for Legacy Single and Dual LNB's and "OCS-DP" for Dish Pro LNB's. Legacy Twin and Quad LNB's have specific types for LNB1(higher azimuth) and LNB2(lower azimuth) satellites. Set the frequency of the LNB to "11250."

    • 3). Select "on" if a 22KHz switch is used with the LNB. Select "off" if no switch is used. Choose a TP frequency of "12239" for an EchoStar 7(119.0W) satellite or a TP frequency of "12224" for other satellite models.

    • 4). Set the DiSEqC 1.0 switch, or select the correct port number for an external DiSEqC switch if used. Select "port 1" or "port 2" for a higher or lower azimuth satellite, respectively, for a DishPro Twin or Quad LNB or choose "None" if no DiSEqC switch is used.

    • 5). Turn 'Motor" to "Off" if a motor is not used to control the satellite. Otherwise, choose the appropriate motor settings for your installation. Set the "Legacy SW" according to the switch used for the LNB. Choose "SW42 Dish 1" (higher azimuth) or "SW442 Dish 2" (lower azimuth) for a Legacy Twin or Quad Satellite.

    • 6). Check the signal strength and quality meters--readings should be above 50. Confirm that the satellite name displayed on the screen (next to the words "Antenna Setup") matches the name next to the "Satellite" label in the menu. Save all settings by pressing "Exit," choosing "Yes" and "OK."

    Network Auto-scan

    • 1). Select "Auto Scan" from the "Installation" menu. Select "All" for the "Search" option and turn "Network Search" on. For a multiple satellite setup, press F1 and choose each configured satellite, and press "Exit" when finished.

    • 2). Choose "Scan Start > OK" to start the scanning process. Save the results of the scan by pressing "OK" and selecting "Yes." Press "Exit" to close the Main Menu.

    • 3). Choose a strong satellite channel. The system will be operational and the picture and sound will appear after the Auto Roll process is finished.
