The Egg Diet - Fad Or Just Low Carb?

With the diet market flooded with miracle diets of eating all you want and still losing weight, some careful consideration is needed to determine whether the egg diet is a fad or just a low carbohydrate dieting option.
While there is no magic bullet for dieters, the beauty is that there are plenty of options for plenty of people and a likely chance that through research and consideration you will find the diet that works for you.
The egg diet stresses eggs as the primary source of protein in the diet, followed by lean meats, cheese and other dairy while reducing or eliminating carbohydrates all together.
This is called nutritional fasting.
The theory: sugars and starches (carbs) contain glucose and the body converts excess glucose into fat.
So eliminate the carbs and start eliminating the fat.
There is also little denying the fact that eggs are a powerhouse of nutrition.
Many experts believe it to be one of the most well balanced proteins one can consume as it is a good source of vitamins B2, B12, D, and E, as well as folate and iron.
It also contains vitamins B1, B6, phosphorous, zinc, and choline in smaller amounts.
The majority of the protein in the egg is found in the whites, while the majority of the vitamin and mineral content is in the yolk.
One of the side effects of the egg diet is a temporary withdrawal syndrome associated with lack of carbohydrates.
The most common symptoms are nausea, fatigue, and weakness followed by loss of appetite.
As carbohydrates are the body's first choice for energy, reducing carbohydrates will force the body to break down fat reserves for glucose.
In choosing the egg diet there are a couple of considerations.
First, do not skip meals.
Eat three meals a day even if they are small and you don't feel hungry.
Second drink plenty of water.
Third, avoid sodas, even diet sodas.
Fourth, don't eliminate the fruits, veggies and fiber (stick to the pyramid).
The last and most important consideration is to talk to your doctor and determine for yourself whether the egg diet is a fad or a low carbohydrate option.
