Reasons for Indian Passport Refusal
- Anyone who applies for an Indian passport and fails to submit the appropriate documentation substantiating his application will not be approved. Examples of the required supporting material include a photo I.D. such as a driving license or Electors Photo Identification Card, a birth certificate, a property document, a pension document or a verification certificate. All documents should be submitted along with the appropriate fees, otherwise the application will be refused.
- India refuses the issuance of passports to individuals whom it determines may engage in behavior detrimental to the country. This includes leaving India and engaging in activities deemed harmful to the sovereignty and integrity of the country. It also includes any behavior that might be interpreted as harmful to the security of the nation.
- India reserves the right to refuse issuance of a passport to certain controversial individuals. These are people whose presence in another nation might possibly hinder or prejudice the relations of India with that nation. In short, any individual thought to have the power to tarnish or diminish the image of the Indian government can be denied a passport.
- Any individual who applies for a passport in the period of time no less from any conviction regarding moral turpitude will have his application denied. Acts of moral turpitude include crimes such as murder, rape, forgery or theft, but generally speaking, extend to behavior thought to be against consensus standards of justice or honesty. Additionally, anyone who has criminal procedures pending, who has an outstanding warrant for arrest or summons to appear before a court will not be issued a passport.
- In addition to anyone who cannot prove Indian citizenship by submitting the appropriate documentation, anyone who has had his citizenship repatriated or awarded back to him, but has yet to pay the corresponding fees will not be granted a passport.
