How to Rewind a Homelite Weed Eater Spool
- 1). Stop the engine by pushing the ignition button to the "Stop" position before attempting to rewind the spool. Unhook the rubber boot from the end of the spark plug to reduce the risk of injury.
- 2). Hold the string head firmly and unscrew the head cover counterclockwise to release the spool. Slide the spool from the head but keep the spring attached to the head. Take off any remaining string on the spool.
- 3). Cut two pieces of replacement line, each 9 feet in length. Push the first line into the anchor hole on the upper rim of the spool. Wind the first line counterclockwise around the upper half of the spool, keeping the line tight and even. Set the line's remaining 3 inches into the formed slot on the upper rim of the spool.
- 4). Insert the second line into the anchor hole on the bottom rim of the spool. Wind the second line counterclockwise around the lower half of the spool, placing the remaining 3 inches into the notch on the opposite side of the upper rim.
- 5). Push the line ends through the exit holes on the head cover. Set the spool down into the head against the spring. Hold the spool down and lift each line end free of its notches. Depress the spool while twisting it counterclockwise to lock it in place. Jiggle the spool lightly to make sure it will stay in place.
