How to Replace the String in a Husqvarna 326LD String Trimmer

    • 1). Lay the trimmer flat on the ground and switch off the engine. Let it sit for several minutes to cool off. Rotate the engine so the head faces up.

    • 2). Steady the movable head attachment with one hand. With the other hand, depress the two tabs on the outer wall of the movable hand. Push the tabs down while turning the cover counterclockwise to remove the cover. If your model uses a knob, just unscrew it counterclockwise and remove the cover.

    • 3). Pull the cover, spool and spring off the metal stub. Get rid of any old string that may be left over on the spool. Cut off the appropriate amount of string for your head attachment. Refer to operator's manual for specific lengths.

    • 4). Fold the line in half. Connect the looped end to the notch on the inner part of the spool. Hold the spool in your hand. Stick your thumb in between the two string ends and wrap your fingers around the bottom.

    • 5). Start winding the string around the spool following the directional arrow on the spool. Hold the string tight and make the rows even and parallel. Place the last 6 inches of string into the molded notches on the upper part of the spool.

    • 6). Set the spool down into the housing area against the spring. Thread each line through the eyelets on the housing head. Push the spool straight down and set the cover on top. Turn it clockwise to lock it in place. Pull the lines out to tighten them against the spool.
