How to Clean Compact Disc Players
- 1). Buy a CD player cleaning kit (See Resources for example). These special kits come with a cleaner and a disc shaped like a CD, which you insert into the player and allow it to spin. You won't have to take your player apart to clean it this way.
- 2). Unscrew the casing on your player. This can usually be done by looking for a few small screws around the body, possibly on the back or bottom if you have a large player. Lift the casing off the CD player and look for the lens, which may be blue in color.
- 3). Dip one end of a cotton swab in alcohol. Press it against the side of the mouth of the bottle and roll it. This is to squeeze the excess alcohol off so it doesn't drip. Rub the lens with the wet end of the cotton swab. Blow on it gently for a few seconds so it dries completely.
- 4). Test your CD player to make sure it is clean. Insert a CD into the player and allow it to play for at least 30 seconds. Eject it, and insert a second CD to make sure it can play uninterrupted for 30 seconds. If both CDs play well, you can safely say your CD player is clean.
- 5). Secure the screws for the casing. Replace the case for your player and fasten the screws in place.
