How to Open a Hand-held Shower Head to Remove the Flow Restrictor

    • 1). Turn off the shower control knob and close the main water valve in the home, which is typically located on the ground floor or in the basement.

    • 2). Unscrew the hand-held shower from the overhead wall pipe in your shower, using pliers.

    • 3). Pull out the rubber gasket inside the threaded coupler on the end of the hand-held shower. Save this part.

    • 4). Pry out the plastic flow restrictor under the rubber washer, using a flat-blade screwdriver. This piece is round, with a hole in the center. It may be colored grayish-white, pale green or pink, depending on your model.

    • 5). Replace the rubber washer, pushing it into the coupler firmly as far as it will go.

    • 6). Reconnect the hand-held shower to the wall pipe and tighten the coupler clockwise with pliers.

    • 7). Turn on the water at the main valve.
