How to Texture Candy Icing
- 1). Place the texture mat, texture side up on a smooth, flat surface. Spray the surface of the mat with vegetable cooking spray. Wipe away most of the spray with a paper towel or napkin to avoid making the candy icing gummy.
- 2). Sprinkle the table surface with a small amount of corn starch. Sprinkle your candy icing with some corn starch as well. Roll the candy icing to 1/8th of an inch thick or thinner. You want the icing to be as thin as possible without breaking. Roll out the icing so that it is large enough to fill the entire texture mat, especially if you plan to cover a large surface, such as an entire cake.
- 3). Place the texture mat, texture side down over the icing. Roll the texture mat into the icing with the rolling pin. Roll slowly, in one direction only for best results. Cut off any excess candy icing with a sharp knife.
- 4). Cover the base surface, typically cookies or cake, but you can also apply candy icing to cupcakes, brownies and other desserts, with butter cream icing or piping gel. Lay the textured icing over the surface carefully starting from the middle and working toward the edges. Gently smooth the icing over the surface, taking care not to push hard enough to ruin the texture.
