Some Hospitals in Constant State of Construction
Hopefully, you haven't had to visit a hospital anytime recently because you've been sick.
If you have, however, you might have noticed something if the hospital you go to is the same as many others throughout the country.
It was probably under construction! And even though construction doesn't mean you can't get the care from those in medical scrubs, it might make it a bit more of a hassle for you.
Whether the roads are ripped up around the hospital, the main entrance is under construction, or the interior is being worked on, many hospitals simply are so large that one or more parts of the hospital are being added or refurbished.
The good thing about construction, however, is that it likely means more or better services for you in the long run.
The bad thing about construction is it might mean more confusion or hassle in the short term.
However, there are things a hospital under construction can do to make sure those in need of medical care get to those in medical uniforms in a fast and efficient manner.
Probably the number one thing is communication.
If new entrances, detours, or practice locations are noted and communicated clearly, construction isn't so bad.
If those coming in to the hospital are left to their own devices to figure out how to get around, things can get ugly.
For instance, if the hospital knows they will have construction around a particular time that will affect their main entrance, it would be a good idea to send out a letter to all mothers who are expecting to deliver their child at the hospital around that time.
That way the nervous father can drive to the right place, rather than going to the old entrance and having the nurses run the wheelchair there.
Even with comfortable nurse shoes, running around a hospital can take some time! And since not everyone will get or read such a letter, communicating a change like this in other ways would help, too.
Signs that are visible from the road would help, along with a sign that shows where the temporary entrance is.
If someone misses that sign, having a sign posted on the old entrance door would be needed as well.
As with anything else, over communication is often a good thing!
