- 1). Draw two vertical, parallel lines of equal length. You may use a ruler, if it will help. These will be the sides of the cylinder, so they should be as long as you want the cylinder to be overall.
- 2). Join the bottom ends of the two lines with a slightly curved line. The curve should point downward. In other words, the line should resemble a smile, not a frown.
- 3). Draw a second curved line to connect the two vertical lines at the top. The line should curve the same amount as the lower line. It should also point downward.
- 4). Draw another curved line that points upward. Begin and end the line at the top endpoints of the vertical lines. This curve in conjunction with the second curve will resemble a narrow, angled oval at the top of the shape.
- 5). Shade the sides of the shape, in-between the vertical lines, to indicate roundness. Shade darker at the sides. Gradually shade lighter the closer to the middle you move the pencil.
