On a Clear Day DVD

Tagline: "Anything is possible."
Length: 98 minutes
MPAA Rating: PG-13 for some language

This is a feel-good British dramedy, rather in the spirit of The Full Monty. On a Clear Day stars Peter Mullan as Frank Redmond, a 50-something Glasgow resident who gets laid off at the shipyards after working there for decades.

Plagued with family problems, Redmond begins to fall into a deep depression until he gets the idea of attempting to swim the English Channel. Supported by his pals, he finds redemption in working toward this goal.

Tristram Shandy: A Cock and Bull Story DVD

Tagline: "He's about to play the role of his life."
Length: 94 minutes
MPAA Rating: R for language and sexual content

Directed by Michael Winterbottom, this comedy is about an attempt to make a movie based on Laurence Sterne's Tristram Shandy, a classic 1760 novel that seems unfilmable. The novel is comically digressive, and so is Winterbottom's movie. Actor Steve Coogan portrays an actor named Steve Coogan, who in the film-within-the-film plays both Tristram Shandy and Tristram's father Walter. The fictional Coogan struggles as he deals with a number of problems involving cast and crew, the press and his girlfriend.
