How to Crochet a Motif Afghan
- 1). Make a chain of 4 stitches and join it with a slip stitch to make a ring. Chain 5.
- 2). Work 1 single-crochet stitch into the ring to anchor the chain 5. Work and anchor 4 more chains into the same ring. Chain 3 and double crochet into the beginning circle for the last loop.
- 3). Work 4 chain stitches and single crochet into the top of the next loop. Continue around. From the fifth loop, chain 4 and slip stitch into the top of the first loop.
- 4). Work 3 chain stitches and anchor the chain into the chain 3 space from the previous round. Chain 3 again and anchor in the single crochet at the top of the next loop. Repeat around and slip stitch into the chain where this round started.
- 5). Chain 3 and work 2 more double crochets in the chain 3 space from the last round. Chain 1 and work 3 double crochets in the next space. Repeat around, join with a slip stitch to the starting chain, and fasten off.
- 6). Join motifs with yarn in staggered rows, or in concentric circles. Work a freehand web of chain stitches to fill empty areas between motifs.
