5 Tips to Goal-Oriented Attitudes and Behaviours

Goal development and fulfilment isn't easy for teens or for adults for that matter.
Life seems to be a lot easier when you can cruise on autopilot instead of with purpose and intention.
However, unless you have goals, your life won't have as much meaning as it could have.
This is especially the case for your teens.
It is easy to let them do what they want and to not give them any goals to achieve.
But there is nothing worse than to allow your kids to live without intention and purpose.
Parents all want to bring up kids who are psychologically and emotionally well balanced.
Here are a few tips on how to encourage your teen to have goals.
1.
Develop goals to achieve yourself.
When parents have goals and are goal-oriented individuals, it is easier to instill this attitude and way of life in their teens.
Many teens mimic their parent's behaviour.
So, if you have no goals, your teens may want to do the same.
2.
Have long and short term goals.
This way, your goals won't just be goals that you want to achieve in the next week or few weeks, but instead, you will have long term goals as well.
This will give your goal-oriented attitude longevity, something that your teens can hopefully pick up and emulate over time.
3.
Always strive to be the best you can.
This attitude can also rub off on your teens.
This means that mediocrity should not be tolerated in the family, regardless of what you are doing or trying to accomplish.
Always do more than just the minimum.
4.
Encourage your teen to change bad habits.
Sometimes your kids will want to continue doing things that are not productive of their health and well being because they see their parents doing the same.
For instance, if a parent is overweight and continues eating sweets, her teen may do the same.
5.
Have small rewards in place for a job well done.
Teens need to be rewarded if they do a good deed or perform something that is beyond the minimum.
This, over time, can motivate them to excel at doing the best they can in all things when they grow up.
So, take the time to instill good habits in your teens.
Make sure they have both short term and long term goals to fulfill.
This way, they'll become adults who want to have and achieve goals.
This will become a way of life for them.
And this should be something that you'll be proud of as parents.
