Maytag appliances have long been known for their reliability and durability, refrigerators included. Problems do arise occasionally, but the most common issues that occur with Maytag refrigerators are relatively simple to repair. The MZD2766GE comes with a full one-year warranty and a limited five-year warranty on major parts, including the water filter. Any repair not performed by an authorized service center automatically invalidates the warranty, so don't attempt any repairs that involve opening the back panel of the refrigerator unless your warranty has expired. - If the Maytag refrigerator is not cooling, see that it's plugged in, that the temperature control is on and that the circuit breaker is not tripped. Repeated or prolonged door openings can also inhibit efficient cooling. Remove the kick plate from the front of the fridge, and vacuum the condenser. If the refrigerator is still not cooling, inspect your freezer for ice buildup; if ice is present, it is probably built up on your evaporator coils as well. Remove all perishable food from the refrigerator and freezer, turn it off and leave the door open for a day or two until the ice melts. Turn the unit back on; if it cools properly, replace the self-defrost system. If it doesn't, it might be low on refrigerant or may need a new compressor. Contact a service center for further repairs.
- Most noise and vibration stem from either a weak floor or a nonlevel refrigerator. A sizzling noise from the freezer is normal and is simply the sound of moisture dripping onto the defroster. A rattling sound from the bottom of the fridge indicates a loose pan, which you can just tape into place. A chirping sound from the inside of the freezer indicates a faulty fan, which you must replace. If the noise is coming from the outside back of the fridge, clean the condenser fan with a soft bristle brush. If the noise remains, the compressor may need replacing.
- If the ice maker is not working, ensure it is turned on, that the water supply is turned on and that the freezer is set below 32 degrees Fahrenheit. If you have low water pressure, the water may not make it into the fridge, causing your ice maker and water dispenser not to work; contact a plumber for repairs. Evaporating ice cubes are caused by infrequent use and are normal. If the ice dispenser is not working, it is probably jammed; remove some ice from the bin, and run the cubed function until it clears. If neither dispenser is working, ensure the lock switch is off. If the problem remains, contact a repair center.
- Odor indicates that either the food is not properly wrapped or that the entire interior needs cleaning. Moisture can come from a number of sources. Condensation on the interior walls is simply a symptom of excessively hot or humid weather or prolonged door opening and is completely normal. Leaks, however, are not. If there is a puddle in front of the outside of the fridge, a clogged drain line is the problem. Remove the kickplate, clear the plastic tube and replace the drain line. If there is standing water inside the fridge, the drain itself is clogged; remove the bottom drawers and manually remove the debris from the drain. If the entire door is wet--either inside or out--a faulty connection between the water line and dispenser is to blame. If the moisture is coming from the outside back of the refrigerator, inspect the water line and the corresponding valve for a secure connection, and replace them if necessary.
